Margaret Elaine Bachtel

Margaret Elaine Bachtel, 84, passed away at home after an extended illness on Saturday, July 1st. Elaine's family and caregivers provided much love and support in her final days, yet could never replace all that she received from the love of her life, Jim Bachtel, who preceded her in death by only two days. Elaine was born on June 19, 1933 in Youngstown, Ohio, a daughter of John and Anna Prokop. She was a 1951 graduate of South High School. She and Jim met at work at Mahoney Sash and Door and married on April 4, 1959. Creative and talented, Elaine was an accomplished artisan whose works will long be treasured by her family. Elaine will be deeply missed by her children, Michael (Denise) Bachtel of Cleveland, James R. (Cindy) Bachtel III of Pittsburgh, and Martha (John) Kontur of Akron. Left to cherish memories are 11 grandchildren, Adam Bachtel, Amanda Baker, Royse Bachtel, Ana Bucciero, Bethany Crum, Lydia Brown, Abigail Truex, Grace Kontur, John Kontur, James Kontur, and Margaret Kontur, as well as nine great grandchildren. They all have known a love like no other. Also celebrating Elaine's life are her nephews, John Fitz and Robert Amon, and nieces, Betsy Codispoti and Jennifer Benninger. Besides her parents and her husband Jim, Elaine was preceded in death by her brother, John Prokop and her sister, Marianne Fitz. Elaine was an active member of St. Michael Church, Canfield, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be held for her and Jim on Monday, July 10, at 1:30 pm. Their family will receive friends from 11:30 am until time of service.
