Marjorie “Margie” Helen Bolek, 91, died on June 10, 2022 at Gillette Nursing Home after a brief illness.
Margie was born Marjorie Smith in Bristolville, Ohio, in an area formerly known as Oakfield, on August 5, 1930 to Elmer and Maggie Smith. Margie was the youngest and last surviving of six children: Florence Seger, Howard Smith, George Smith, Alice Hudson, and Fred Smith.
Margie was a proud graduate of Bristol High School class of 1948 where she made life-long friends.
After high school, Margie met John V. Bolek. They married on August 1, 1951 while he was home on leave from his service with the United States Army in the Korean War. When John returned from the war, the couple built a home on the property next to her parents’ home and had a farm on nearby property.
John and Margie had a long and loving marriage and a passion for farming and family. They both valued community and political involvement. Margie enjoyed accompanying John to political gatherings and was proud to serve as a poll worker on Election Day. John and Margie were married until his passing on February 11, 2001.
Margie was a great cook and baker. She was well known for her delicious pies, strawberry jam, and pickled beets.
Margie had strong friendships from her more than 40 year membership in a homemaker’s club where the members had monthly meetings filled with crafts and food.
Margie was a lifetime member of North Bristol Christian Church and could be found sitting in the same pew every Sunday morning worshiping in her loving church community.
Margie was a great fan of the Cleveland Indians. She listened to every game and could often be found wearing a Cleveland Indians shirt. She enjoyed her flower garden and loved watching her neighborhood from her front porch swing. She was talented at crochet. She also liked listening to political radio shows—particularly those that she disagreed with!
Margie is survived by her three children: Larry A. Bolek, Kathleen B. Clark (Larry), and Amy J. Bolek of Bristolville. She is also survived by two granddaughters, Emily Weston (John) and Michelle Kleismit (Mike) and two great-granddaughters, Rachael and Brianna Kleismit.
Margie was a devoted mother and grandmother. Her family was her greatest joy. She cheered from the stands at countless events and kept up with everyone’s activities. She was always there to celebrate the events in her family’s lives and looked forward to events where everyone could be together. She was a source of friendship and support to her entire family.
The family would like to thank Gillette Nursing Home and Ohio Living Hospice for the care that they provided to Margie during her final weeks.
Funeral services will be held at North Bristol Christian Church on June 15, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. Friends and family may call one hour before the service. Margie will be laid to rest next to John at Sager Cemetery in Bristolville on June 15, 2022, what would have been John’s 97th birthday.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to North Bristol Christian Church in honor of Margie.
