MARIO JOSEPH RUBBO, 92 CANFIELD - Prayers will be at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday at Lane Funeral Home, 65 N. Broad Street, Canfield Chapel followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. at St. Michael Parish for Mario Joseph Rubbo, 92 of Canfield who died Thursday morning at the Hospice House of Poland with his wife, Virginia (Donnelly) Rubbo of 28 years, by his side. Mario was born July 15, 1925 in Youngstown, the son of the late Nicola and Assunta (Leone) Rubbo and was a lifelong area resident. He graduated from East High School, where he played football, winning City Champs in 1943. He went on to serve in the U.S. Army in the 101st Airborne Division during World War II. He served in Rhineland Ardennes, Central Europe and was a para-trooper in the Battle of the Bulge. Mario received the Combat Infantry Badge, the World War II Victory Medal, the European African Middle Eastern Campaign Medal with 3 Bronze Stars and 1 Bronze Arrowhead. He also received the Distinguished Unit Badge and the Belgium Fourquerre. Mario was a policeman for the City of Youngstown from 1951-1970 and then worked for the U.S. Postal Service for 17 years, retiring in 1990. He was a member of St. Michael Parish where he served as Eucharistic Minister. Mario was preceded in death by two brothers and four sisters, and the former Mae Phillips whom he married in 1947 and who died September 1986. He leaves his children; Suzanne, Thomas, Gloria Jean, Nick, Richard, Mark (Elizabeth) and Janet Rubbo and his sister Gloria Rubbo. Mario enjoyed ballroom dancing and going on cruises with his wife Ginny whom he married on July 14, 1989. He leaves three children by marriage; Karen (Bill) Schaub, Ginny (Mark) Eddy and Cindy (Matt) Morrissey. Mario had 18 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren.
