Mary E. Velk, 90 A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated 11:00 a.m. Monday, April 4th at at St. Michael's Church for Mary Velk, 90, who passed away peacefully at home with her family by her side. Mary was born August 7, 1925 in Warren, the daughter of the late John and Mary (Haidet) Eschman. She attended Warren High School and was a resident of Canfield for the past 63 years. She and her late husband John were charter members of St. Michael's Church in Canfield. They were also charter members of the former Leffingwell Hills Country Club where they were avid golfers. Mary loved golfing and playing cards with her lady club members and did well in tournaments. She also relished annual trips across the country to visit her daughter and relatives in California. Mary and her late husband delighted in attending softball tournaments for her granddaughters who excelled in sports. Mary was a sweet and easy going homemaker who enjoyed cooking, reading, gardening and spending time with her grandchildren who adored her. All who met and cared for her enjoyed her pleasant personality. Mary will be sadly missed by her sons, Jack Velk of Canfield, and Randy (Kim) Velk of Lake Milton, her daughters Elizabeth Shutrump of Poland, and Vicki Bittle of Pasadena, California. Also to cherish her memory are six grandchildren, Richard Shutrump, Jr. of Poland, Whitney (Russell) Bogan of Hilliard, Ohio, Corey Velk of Lake Milton, Molly (Adam) Dennison of Beloit, John Andrew Velk of Canfield, Clayton (Jennifer) Bittle of Irvine, California and seven great grandchildren. Besides her parents, Mary was preceded in death by her husband John Velk, her son Gregory Velk, her brother John Eschman, her daughter-in-law, Joanie Velk and her son-in-law, Richard Shutrump. Friends may call on Monday from 10:00 am until the time of the service at 11:00 a.m. at St. Michael's Church. The family wishes to extend their sincere appreciation to the staff of Community Health and to Grace Hospice for their respect, compassion, and expert care shown to Mary. They would also like to thank Josephine Gabanyic and Cheri Bissel for the loving and cheerful care they provided to Mary. Arrangements have been entrusted to Lane Family Funeral Home, Canfield Chapel.
