Mary Ellen Conroy

Mrs. Mary Ellen Conroy, 76, of Canfield, passed away unexpectedly Saturday evening, September 7th, at St. Elizabeth Health Center in Youngstown. 

She was born September 12, 1947 in Youngstown, the daughter of Donald I. and Dorothea (Glynn) Meenachan.

Mary Ellen was a 1965 graduate of Chaney High School and worked as a bookkeeper for All Weather Supplies in Boardman for many years, retiring in 2015.

She married Patrick F. Conroy on May 27, 1978. They shared 46 years of marriage and many happy memories together. He survives her.

Mary Ellen was a lifelong member of Lake Milton American Legion Post 737 where she served with the ladies auxiliary. She spent the last ten years wintering in Punta Gorda, FL with her husband. She wasn't afraid to tackle any project or sport, including golf, roller skating, ice skating, water skiing, and snow skiing. She excelled as a quilt maker, specializing in the traditional hand pieced and hand quilted method. She won many awards in almost every show she entered, including the Canfiled Fair and most recently the prestigious Peace River Quilters Guild show in Punta Gorda, and she taught many the art of quilting. She also loved animals, especially her beloved dogs Alf, Sedric, and Kahlua.

Besides her husband, Mary Ellen is survived by a brother, Donald P. (Tanya) Meenachan, of Culver City, CA.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Funeral services will be held 1:00 PM Thursday, September 12th, at the Lane Funeral Home Austintown Chapel, 5797 Mahoning Ave., Austintown.

Friends may call 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM Thursday at the funeral home. 

She will be laid to rest in the Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery, Seville, OH.
