Mary Jayne Damore

September 5, 1922 — March 1, 2019

Mary Jayne (Fabanish) Damore, 96, died on March 1, 2019 in Delray Beach, Florida surrounded by her loving family. She was born on September 5, 1922 in Conway, Pennsylvania to Theresa and James Fabanish, immigrants from Croatia. "Jayne" graduated from The Rayen School in 1940 and in 1942 left Youngstown for Chicago to complete a military commitment as a WAVE in the United States Navy. Later, she was transferred to Norfolk, Virginia where she developed advanced secretarial skills. She returned to Youngstown in 1944 and worked as a stenographer at the Lordstown Army Ordinance Depot. On December 14, 1946 Mary Jayne married Guy F. Damore from Youngstown. Their marriage of 72 years was filled with love and dedication to family, friends, business, and travel. As husband and wife, they first resided on Elberen Street in Youngstown. In 1948 they built in Austintown, Ohio on Norquest Blvd. and soon welcomed brothers and sisters to the neighborhood. After 48 years, they then moved to Canfield, Ohio. Mary Jayne was a full-time wife, mom, aunt and grandmother. She was exceptionally proud of her four children and their families: Dr. Stuart (Paula) Damore from Austin Texas; Lisa (Anthony) Damore Obey, from Boston, MA/Delray Beach, Florida. Two children preceded her in death: Donna Damore Waldron and Atty. Robert P. Damore. She leaves ten grandchildren: Christina Damore, Peter (Crystal) Damore, Michael Waldron, Megan (Kyle) Kundivich, Robert Guy Damore, Jason Damore, Robert P. Damore, Andrew (Kelly) Obey, Alyssa and Alyson Obey; six great- grandchildren, Kate and Brynn McGrath, Sofia and Samuel Kundivich, Adeline Obey, and Dax Damore. She is also survived by her sister, Mrs. Betty Garback, sister-in-law Mrs. Veronica Fabanish, and a number of nieces and nephews who are touched and inspired by her life, as she was like a mom and friend to the Damore, Doinoff, Fabanish, Hopper, Garback, and Mastro families. Also deceased are her elder sister Barbara (Virgil) Hopper and two brothers, Bill (Sally) Fabanish, John Fabanish, and brother-in-law, Edward Garback. Aside from being a loving and devoted mother, Mary Jayne worked as an Office Manager for GF Damore Construction, remained a faithful member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Church in Austintown for over six decades, served in the Auxiliary of the Wolves Club, and actively supported the Latin Culture Club. She and her husband Guy traveled to many places (Japan, Germany, Italy, France, Mexico, Canada, Hawaii), and when flying domestically, she enjoyed accompanying Guy, a pilot, in their plane to attend National Homeowners Association Conventions. Mary Jayne especially enjoyed their stays in Delray Beach, Florida with her immediate and extended families. Mary Jayne embraced the Damore Italian culture with her own special Sunday sauce and meatballs. She was also at the forefront of "good for you" food, encouraging others to eat hot bran cereal topped with honey, while at the same time making her sought after Sunday morning waffles for everyone to enjoy. This along with her daily walks on the sidewalks of Austintown, the hallways of Southern Park Mall, the trails at Mill Creek Park, or the beaches of Delray was key to her longevity. The Damore family would also like to extend their gratitude to Diane Mastro Nard, her niece and companion; Kathy Natal, a friend and care taker; Carol Catauro, her beautician, and Annie Maddalone, her companion and aide in Florida for their unconditional love and support. Calling hours will be held in Canfield at Lane Funeral Home on March 7, 2019 Thursday evening from 5:00pm-7:00pm and on Friday morning, March 8, 2019 from 9:00-10:00am prior to a prayer service that will be followed by interment at Calvary Cemetery in Youngstown, Ohio.
