Melvin Allen Walters

A memorial service will be held 11 AM Tuesday, November 13, at the Lane Funeral Home Mineral Ridge Chapel for Melvin Allen Walters, 76, of Mineral Ridge who passed away Thursday morning, November 8, 2018 at his home. Melvin was born May 25, 1942 in Warren the son of Russell and Alta (McKenzie) Walters and was a lifelong area resident. Melvin was a graduate of Niles McKinley High School and a veteran serving in the US Army from 1960 to 1963 and was stationed in Korea from 1961-1962. He was a clerk with the Norfolk Southern Rail Road Company for 38 years until his retirement 2002. After retirement, he worked for NAPA Auto Parts in Warren for 14 years and volunteered at Niles Community Services. He was of the Protestant faith and was a Cleveland Indians and Alabama Football fan. He also loved to read, enjoyed gardening, and he took pride in his well-groomed yard. Melvin leaves his wife the former Georgeanne T. Petak, whom he married July 25, 1964; three children, Jerry A. (Christine) Walters of Mineral Ridge; John (Leanne Barbee) Walters of Newark, OH; and Janine Louise (David) Carman of Proctor VT; six grandchildren, Jacklyn, Jarrett, Elianna, Kodi, Aili, and Kaden; one great-granddaughter, Rowen, and one brother, Jack (Ruth) Walters of Warren. Besides his parents, Melvin was preceded in death by two brothers, Tom and Robert Walters. Family and friends may call from 5 to 7 PM Monday at the Lane Funeral Home Mineral Ridge Chapel and again from 10:30 AM until 11 AM Tuesday where services will begin at 11 AM. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice of the Valley or Niles Community Services in Melvins name
