Mildred E. Huna, 98, passed away Wednesday January 18, 2024 at St. Joseph Medical Center.
Mildred was born on August 27, 1925 in Ceylon, IA, a daughter of the late Harold Richard Belville and Olga Elenor (Lindell) Belville.
Millie was a graduate of Lake Mills High School and Vice President and Co-Owner of Weld-Action Company. Mildred, lovingly known as Millie by family and friends, and Muma as a devoted grandmother, was the oldest of 12 siblings. Millie’s own Mother passed away after the birth of the last child, an event that had significant impact on Millie as the oldest female of her siblings. With that event she was transitioned from daughter to the newly assigned caregiver to fill the maternal role for her Iowa family. The role was one that she embraced for the rest of her life, a role characterized by selfless caring, tireless commitment to the needs of family, capacity for agape love to all, and an unquenchable desire to be the mother that would best represent the mother she never fully experienced.
Mom sojourned to the “Twin Cities” St. Paul Minnesota, where she met Dad at a popular dance event, attracted by the Navy uniform and his quest for an Engineering degree. While in the Cities, she was chosen randomly to be the Homecoming Queen of St. Thomas University.
Mom and Dad were married at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in St. Paul, as she was surrounded by sisters who were bridesmaids. Thus began the wonderful life Dad and Mom embarked upon for 63 years until Dad entered heaven. In those years they designed a loving family of three children, Marcie, Janeen, and Todd. Millie was singularly devoted to her new family and supporting her husband who had an entrepreneurial vision.
AS a mom, Millie championed all the activities of her children, Girl Scouts, sewing, memorable birthday parties, theatre, band, dance classes, cheerleading, leadership activities, camping, ice skating, skiing, church activities, Disney vacations, boating, Florida sunsets, and most adored football. Millie was insistent each fall weekend to be a dutiful watcher of football, beginning with Friday nights football at Howland High School. She knew the names of key players and welcomed the opportunity to one day attend the Rose Bowl with her beloved The Ohio State son; and husband.
As a wife, Millie embraced the role as the leader, designer, and unflappable support of Dad’s vision for an Engineering company, they eventually called Weld Action Company. As a specialty welding automation company, they worked together daily to grow a business that began in our basement to a known American and global enterprise. As Dad began to close the fulltime chapter of his work, Mom partnered with Todd to continue the company to the path of growth and success.
This amazing, loving wife, mother, sister, and friend will be tremendously missed by her devoted family: Her children, Marcie Calandra (late husband David B. Calandra), Janeen (John) Beard, Todd J. (Mimi) Huna; grandchildren, Ashley, Coco, Shelly, Trish, Jackie, Joshua, Kathleen, and Daniel; great-grandchildren, Sibby, Hattie, David, Waverly, Wally, Theodore David Calandra, Charles Edward Orme, Luke, James III, Jonathan, Julie, Mara-Jane, Braelyn, and a baby great-grandchild on the way in February; siblings, Darrel Belville and Helen Michael; and 50 remaining nieces and nephews from the Belville family.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband Jack Huna; and nine brothers and sisters.
The most eternal legacy Millie bestowed upon her family was her faith and undeniable belief in the Triune God and her assurance of eternal life. This faith is one that will be immortalized by her family.
