Guided home by his beloved wife, Ursula T. Hanna (deceased), loving father to two children, Craig R. Hanna and Lynn Hanna Ingram (Andrew Ingram). Survived by brother George Hanna and sister-in-law Nancy W. Hanna, uncle to Scott C. Hanna (deceased), Dr. Lauren E. Hanna (Michael DePree), Kurt W. Hanna, grandfather to Rachael Ingram, Jayme Ingram, Mark Ingram and great grandfather to Avery Jones.
Jack graduated from Orange High School in 1949. He then attended Cornell University where he completed his BSME degree in 1954. During this time, he played varsity basketball and was accepted as a member of Phi Kappa Psi fraternity before being selected for advanced studies in Sydney, Australia as a Fulbright Scholar. He met Ursie, his wife of 52 years, in Karlsruhe, Germany while proudly serving in the United States Army. After returning home he used his engineering degree as an employee of the White Motor Company, working in the Truck Division in various positions before being appointed the Director of Product Planning. He enjoyed off-shore, as well as domestic travel, to nearly 100 countries. His specialty for relaxation was a family cabin in Marten River, Ontario Canada, where he enjoyed star gazing, canoeing, fishing and swimming until 2019. Never far from nature, he became a dedicated birder and was a highly accredited frog whisperer.
His religious life was based on the Christian Church, which he attended regularly for nearly eighty years. He often drove friends to church, which in recent years contributed to his family’s heart burn. Jack loved reading books, as he did most of his life, finishing one book before starting another. As his children can attest, he was an avid photographer and took well over 20,000 slides in his lifetime.
He was also a great animal lover, especially of dogs, which he was around almost his entire life. Jack supported his mother, Erma Hanna in the formation of Valley Save-a-Pet and would be grateful for contributions to that organization in lieu of flowers.
Service will be held at the Cortland Christian Church, 153 Grove St at 11am on Saturday, July 27, 2024 with viewing hours from 9:30-11:00. A luncheon will follow at the church and burial will be performed at the family burial plot at Lake View Cemetery, Cleveland Ohio.
