AUSTINTOWN-Funeral services will be held Friday at 11:30 AM at the Lane Funeral Home Austintown for Charles E. Grope of 4901 Westchester Drive in Austintown who died Wednesday morning at St. Elizabeth’s Medical Center. Charles was born on November 30, 1918 the son of Matthew J. and Elsie Mae (Bossart) Grope. He served in the Pacific Theatre while in the U.S. Navy then went on to work as a welder at General Fireproofing retiring in 1983 after 32 years. Charles was a member of the Wedgewood Park Evangelical Church, the Highway Senior Citizens and he drove for the American Red Cross. Mr. Grope is survived by his loving wife Arta (Thrope) who he married in 1967 and 5 children Charles A.Grope , Wayne E.Grope both of Boardman, Charlene Bair of Youngstown, Ronald G.Grope of Poland, Bruce R.Grope of East Palestine and a stepdaughter Janet Kyzer of Austintown. He also leaves 3 brothers Raymond Grope of Austintown, Matthew Grope of Boardman and James Grope of Canfield along with 15 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren. He is preceeded in death by his parents, a son David Lee Grope, a sister Dorothy Bissenden, a brother John Grope and a stepson William J. McKay.Friends may call at the Lane Funeral Home Austintown Chapel on Thursday from 4-8 PM. The family requests that tributes take the form of donations to the Church Building fund.
