Norma Jean West

Norma Jean West, 97, of Canfield, passed away early Wednesday morning, February 19, 2025. Norma Jean was born March 28, 1927 in Youngstown, a daughter of the late Max Herman and Margaret F. (Krause) Hupp and was a lifelong area resident. She graduated from South High School in 1945 and went on to work for New York Life Insurance Company for several years, later working for a local bakery. Norma Jean was a former member of St. Mark Lutheran Church where she was a Sunday School teacher and sang in the choir. She was an avid Cleveland Indians fan and enjoyed doing crossword puzzles and attending concerts on the Village Green in Canfield. Her husband of 69 years, George W. West, Jr., whom she married October 6, 1950, passed away May 13, 2020. Norma Jean leaves her son, Craig W. (Vera) West of Canfield; a daughter, Cynthia Jean West Gilson of St. Petersburg, FL; three grandchildren, George (Bekah) West, Melissa (David) West Solway, and Melanie West; and four great-grandchildren, Emerson, Graham and Eisley Solway and Emma Jean West. Norma Jean also leaves two sisters, Eileen (John) Rowthorn of Eddyville, KY, Nancy P. Brown of Boardman and a brother, James (Ila) Hupp of Columbiana. Besides her parents and her husband, Norma Jean was preceded in death by two brothers, Harold Hupp and Carl Hupp. Friends may call on Wednesday, February 26th, from 10:00 am until 10:45 am at Lane Funeral Home, Canfield Chapel, followed by the funeral service at 11:00 am. Graveside services will follow at Canfield Village Cemetery.
