Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, August 15th at 11:00 A.M. at Grace Lutheran Church in Austintown for Paul T. Jakubec, age 80, of 5060 Argonne Ave. in Austintown, Ohio. Paul passed away on Saturday, August 11 at his home. Paul was born January 1, 1921 in Youngstown, Ohio. The Son of Paul and Julia Jakubec, Paul had been employed at U.S. Steel as a chemist and retired in 1979 after 43 years of service. He had also worked for Wilson Construction for 20 years as a carpenter. Paul was a 1939 graduate of Fitch High School where he was a member of the National Honor Society and was starting halfback on Fitch's first championship football team in 1938. He was also a member of Grace Lutheran Church and former long-time member of St. John's Lutheran Church. Paul was a member of the Saxon Golf League, Sam Camens Arts and Crafts Center, Senior League of the Wedgewood Bowling Team, former Austintown Optimists Club, and Little League Umpire as well as a WWII Army/Air Corps Tech Sergeant and veteran serving in the Pacific Theatre , Aleutian Islands where he received the Bronze Star. Paul's wife, Irene Kerester, whom he married March 9, 1944, passed away December 16, 1997. They were married 54 years. Paul is survived by a son Kenneth P. Jakubec of Austintown and a daughter Melanie Vinion of Wooster, Ohio, as well as a sister Olga Pabst of Austintown, Ohio, 4 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren. A Brother Daniel is deceased. Friends may call from 2-4 & 6-8 PM on Tueday, August 14, at the Lane Funeral Home Austintown Chapel. The family requests that memorial contributions be made to Hospice of the Valley or Grace Lutheran Church.
