Phyllys J. Savelle, age 86, of Howland went home to be with her Lord on Thursday morning, January 3, 2019 at Trumbull Regional Medical Center. She was born on June 24, 1932, in Warren , the daughter of Glen A. and Mary Mocella Murray. After graduating from Leavittsburg High and attending Kent State Univ., Phyllys graduated from the Trumbull County Police Academy and was the first female reserve officer in the City of Cortland. She worked as communications officer for the Howland Police Department for 28 years, and after retirement, she directed the STARS (Seniors Reaching And Teaching Students) in Warren Schools for 4 years, working with the elementary children with their reading. Phyllys was a member of Bazetta Christian Church, charter member of F.O.P. Lodge No. 163, the Altrussa Club, Trumbull County Rape Crisis Team, St. Josephs Hospital Auxiliary, the League of Women Voters, the Warren City and Trumbull County Federations, the Red Hat Society, and SCOPE. She was elected into Scope's Society of Honors in June 2005. Phyllys enjoyed reading, knitting, crocheting and loved traveling with her sister. Phyllys is survived by three daughters: Cheryle L. (Phillip) Syracuse of Bolivia, NC, Terry L. Taylor and Michele M. Taylor (Carl Clemens) both of Howland; and one sister, Carol A. Sandrock of Vernon, Ohio. Phyllys will be sadly missed by longtime neighbors, friends, classmates and seven nieces and nephews. Phyllys was preceded in death by her husband, Richard P. Savelle, whom she married June 2, 1980 and died in 1988; her parents; and two sisters, Ruth L. Jones and Beatrice Wilcox and two brothers, Glen William and Charles Nelson Murray. The family will greet friends from 10:30 a.m. until noon on Monday, January 7, 2019 at Bazetta Christian Church, followed by a memorial service at noon with Pastor Michael Nicholson officiating. Inurnment will be at a later date at the Crown Hill Mausoleum in Vienna. Arrangements were entrusted to Lane Family Funeral Homes, Roberts-Clark Chapel in Warren.
