Raymond C. Schaffer, 89, of Salem, Ohio, passed away early Saturday evening, December 7, 2024, at Aultman Hospital in Canton.
Raymond was born on February 21, 1935, in Greenford, Ohio, the son of the late John and Pearl (Hartman) Schaffer. He worked at the General Motors Lordstown Plant, retiring in 1997. Before his career at GM, Raymond was a plasterer for Fluharty Homes and later became self-employed.
Raymond had a passion for antique tractors, which he enjoyed showing and participating in parades with fellow tractor enthusiasts, often winning various awards. He was a devoted member of his community and always cherished his time with fellow tractor lovers.
He is survived by his wife of nearly 70 years, Joanne (Burkey) Schaffer, whom he married on December 31, 1954; his daughter, Barbara (David) Lawton of Salem; his son, James (Janet) Schaffer of Greenford; four grandchildren, Zachary, Curtis, Travis, Alexis; and a great-grandson, Russell. Raymond also leaves behind two sisters, Margie Parks of Sebring and Savilla McCabe of Youngstown.
Besides his parents, Raymond was preceded in death by his son, Mark Schaffer, and siblings: Lois Wright, Catherine “Kitty” Yaniw, Marcella “Mart” Hawkins, Joseph Schaffer, Wilbur “Wib” Schaffer, John Schaffer; half siblings, Lawrence Felton, Don Felton, Emma Felton, William Graber and Mavis Manning.
Visitation will be held on Friday, December 13, 2024, at Lane Funeral Home, Canfield Chapel, from 12:00 p.m. to 12:45 p.m ., followed by a funeral service at 1:00 p.m..
