Richard Carl Kane

May 7, 1931 — July 21, 2018

Richard Carl Kane, 87 peacefully passed away surrounded by his loving family early Saturday morning July 21, 2018 after a long, brave and strong battle with complications of Alzheimers Disease. Dick was reunited with his sweetheart Nancy in the Kingdom of Heaven. He was born May 7, 1931 in Warren, the son of the late Patrick W. and Ethel M. Vaughn Kane. Dick graduated from Emerson High School in Gary, Indiana June 15, 1949. He joined the United States Air Force at the age 17 and served from 1948 to December 21, 1951. While serving his country, his home base was located in Oklahoma City, Okla. Most notably he spent 16 months on Shemya in the Aleutian Islands. While there, he was stationed at a refueling base for the Air and Air Ways Communication Service during the Korean Air-Lift for the Air Force. After the military, he worked at Sears Roebuck in downtown Warren where he met and fell in love with his sweetheart, Nancy Haddon. They married April 2, 1954, at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Niles. Per the ministers advice, they went out and "raised a little Kane"; their daughter Lori in 1961. Dick worked at Campbell Construction Company as a carpenter. His carpentry skills included work on the original Harding High School in Warren as well as a local hospital, his daughters play house and other projects around the family home. He had a long career of 30 years at Republic Steel/WCI in Warren. Richard also held a job at the Warren-Trumbull County Library collecting overdue books. However, the job he held most important was providing and caring for his family. He was a devoted son, husband, dad, father-in-law, and grandpa. He was our protector and had great strength and character. He was our very own "Superman" and "Mr. Fix-It". He would do anything for his wife, daughter, son-in-law and two grandchildren. He enjoyed family vacations and travel, and probably the most memorable one of all being the wonderful San Francisco trip he took with his beloved wife in 1982. He also enjoyed gardening, antiquing with his wife, tinkering with and maintaining his cars over the years, listening to the radio and playing the guitar. We will cherish all of our wonderful memories of him and smile often recalling his sense of humor and love. Richard will be sadly missed by his daughter, Lori E. (Kane) Findley; grandson, Robert R. Findley III of Warren; granddaughter, Lilah H. Findley (Alicia Hendricks) of Huber Heights, Ohio; nieces, nephews and sister-in-law, Carilyn Rudolph and all the many friends he made along the way. Besides by his parents, he was preceded in death by wife, Nancy B. Haddon Kane; a brother, Bill Kane; sister, Margie Minick and son-in-law, Rusty Findley. The funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, July 24, 2018 at Lane Family Funeral Homes, Roberts Clark Chapel in Warren, where friends may call one hour prior to the service. Pastor Bill Leitch will officiate. Richard will be laid to rest at Crown Hill Burial Park in Vienna, where military honors will be accorded. Material contributions may be made to Crossroads Hospice of Cleveland, 9975 Rockside Rd, Suite 270, Valley View,OH 44125.
