Richard "Dick" S. Rice

Richard S. Rice, 86, of Boardman, passed away early Saturday morning, November 23, 2024, at Hospice House of Poland.

Richard, known as Dick, was born on July 23, 1938, in Washington, PA, a son of the late Clifton and Evelyn (Tharp) Rice. He proudly served his country as a veteran of the United States Navy. Dick was a dedicated truck driver for over 40 years, having worked for Albert Packing, Beatty Motor, and most recently, Road Way Express, where he retired after an impressive three million miles of driving.

An avid outdoorsman, Dick enjoyed camping, hunting, and fishing. He cherished time spent outdoors with family and friends.

Dick is survived by his wife, the former Lynn Shepard, whom he married on September 3, 1977. He leaves behind his children: David (Connie) Rice of Bentleyville, PA, Amy (Mark) Hatfield of Washington, PA, Karla (Michael) Richards of Washington, PA, Richard C. Rice and Joshua Rice, both of Boardman. He also leaves eight grandchildren and several great-grandchildren. Dick is further survived by his sister, Debra Knox of Washington, PA.

In addition to his parents, Dick was preceded in death by a sister, Nancy Costar.

A private family gathering will be held in the spring to honor his memory.
