Richard H. Stephens

Niles- Funeral services will be held 1:30 PM Thursday at the Lane Funeral Home-Mineral Ridge for Richard H. Stephens, age 78 of Niles who died early Monday morning in Trumbull Memorial Hospital. Dick was born June 19, 1929 in Mineral Ridge and was the son of the late Hayden and Sara (Jenkins) Stephens. He grew up in Mineral Ridge and moved to Long Island, NY where he lived for 35 years and then returned to Niles. He retired from Miltope Corp. in Long Island, NY where he was a government contract manager. Dick was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Niles, a 50 year member of the Niles McKinley Lodge # 794 in Niles where he had been Past Master, a 1947 graduate of Mineral Ridge High School and had attended Miami of Ohio University. Dick was a graduate of Kings Point Merchant Marine Academy and later obtained a Captain Certification. He was a founding member of the Plainedge Bobcats Youth Football in NY, a retired member of the Naval Reserves and a long time high school football official. Dick is survived by his wife, the former Jane Satterlee whom he married June 20, 1959. He also leaves three sons, Richard "Skip" (Ana) Stephens of Bethpage, NY, Douglas L. (Terry) Stephens and Eric H. (Andrea) Stephens both of Farmingdale, NY., a sister Ruth J. Wilson of Cortland, a brother William L. (Shirley) Stephens of Niles and eight grandchildren, Daniel, Andrew, D.J., Sara, Kelly, Katelyn, Christopher and Carly. Friends may call at the funeral home from 5-8 PM Wed and 12:30-1:30 prior to services on Thursday. The family requests that material contributions be made to the First United Methodist Church in Niles. The Masonic Lodge will hold services 7:45 PM Wednesday at the funeral home.
