Richard John “Killer” Kalosky Sr., 82, of Canfield, went home to meet his Lord and Savior early Saturday morning, February 17th, after a brief illness at St. Elizabeth’s Hospital in Youngstown.
Born June 6, 1941 in Youngstown, Ohio, Richard was the son of John and Elizabeth (Scherl) Kalosky. He was a 1959 graduate of Chaney High School. He then went on to Youngstown State University where he achieved his Bachelor’s Degree in Education and later a Master’s Degree in Education from Westminster College. He taught Mathematics at Warren G. Harding High School before becoming an Industrial Chemical Salesman for Chem-Trend, retiring in 2003.
He married the love of his life, Patricia Ann Geraci on August 22, 1964. They shared almost 60 years of marriage and many wonderful memories. Patricia was the love of his life.
He was a member of St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church in Austintown. He was the first President of the Theta XI fraternity at YSU, and was also a member of the Saxon Club and Catholic War Vets. Richard was a professional racquetball player and taught at Club South. He was an avid golfer and enjoyed handball, flowers, gardening, and making homemade wine. He loved the Ohio State Buckeyes and YSU Penguin Football; he was a proud YSU alumni.
Besides his wife, Richard is survived by his two children Lisa M. (Nicholas) Marks and Richard J. (Lisa) Kalosky Jr. He also leaves behind three siblings, Beth Ann Griffiths, John (Joyce) Kalosky and Marylynn (William) Long; five grandchildren Daniel (Monique) Marks, Vincent Marks, Richard J. Kalosky III, Marissa Marks, and Joseph Kalosky; two great grandchildren Ava and Carter Marks; several nieces and nephews, several great-nieces and great-nephews, and many wonderful friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Edward and Jerome Kalosky, and brother-in-law William Griffiths.
Richard will be remembered for his warm smile and larger-than-life personality and will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, February 22nd, at 11:00 AM, at St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church, 4545 New Road, Austintown.
Friends may call Wednesday, February 21st, from 5:00-7:00 PM, at Lane Funeral Home, Austintown Chapel, 5797 Mahoning Ave.
Richard will be laid to rest at Calvary Cemetery.
Richard’s family would like to extend special thanks and appreciation to Mercy Health Youngstown’s Medical Intensive Care Unit, for the compassionate care he received, and also to his granddaughter Marissa Marks, who is a Medical ICU RN who advocated for his care and who never left his side during his brief illness.
