Richard S. Evans

July 17, 1943 — September 9, 2011

Richard S. "Rick" Evans of Canfield passed away Friday evening in Hospice House. He was born July 17, 1943 in Wilmington, Ohio the son of Harry and Josephine (Scott) Evans. Rick was a graduate of Seven Mile High School in Seven Mile, Ohio. He attended Ohio University and Youngstown State University and served honorably in the United States Air Force. He retired from General Motors Corp. after 38 years of service in the Transportation Department having worked at both the Hamilton, OH facility and most recently the Lordstown, OH facility. Following his 2001 retirement, he was elated to spend winters in his new home in The Villages, FL where he realized his dream of playing golf almost daily and carousing with the many friends he had there; old & new. Nothing gave him more joy than being with his family, especially his loving and devoted wife, Andrea, of 39 years. Rick loved to travel especially to Houston to visit his daughter, Lauren & son-in-law, Aaron, where he always enjoyed socializing and spending time with family. He also spent time traveling to the east coast of Florida, where he had hopes of kayaking the Indian & Banana Rivers with his daughter, Lydia & son-in-law, Kevin. He couldn't wait to be a grandpa and welcomed his first granddaughter, Julia, 18 months ago. The proud grandpa or "Baba" as Julia called him, was always teaching her new things and was grooming her to caddy for him, especially important were golf cart driving lessons. Wherever he went or whoever he met, Rick was loved. He had an infectious laugh and a winning smile. He was a wonderful & loving husband, father, brother, uncle, cousin and friend to many, and a remarkable human being to all who had the pleasure of knowing him. He will be missed immensely. Rick leaves his wife, the former Andrea Yonker, whom he married April 15, 1972, two daughters; Lauren (Aaron) Dorger of Houston TX, and Lydia (Kevin) Jackson of Indian Harbour FL, one granddaughter, Julia Yvonne Dorger, and one brother; David (Fran) Evans of Lordstown. Besides his parents, Rick was preceded in death by a sister Clair Wolfe. Funeral services for Rick will be held Tuesday at 11 AM at the Lane Funeral Home Canfield Chapel. Friends may call from 5 to 8 PM Monday and again from 10 to 11 AM Tuesday at the funeral home.
