Austintown- Robert L. Fink Sr., 93, of Austintown, passed away Friday, October 4, 2013. He was born in Austintown, Ohio on April 21, 1920 to the late Laurn Daniel and Pearl Beatrice (Stewart) Fink. Robert served his country in the U.S. Army Air Corps during WWII. He was a Captain in the 20th Airforce, 505th Bomb Group and was a B-29 pilot. During his service he was shot down over Tokyo and was held as a POW until the end of the war. Robert was a Purple Heart recipient and when he retired he received the rank of Major. He attended Youngstown College and graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Engineering. He worked as the Assistant Superintendent for Youngstown Sheet and Tube retiring in 1977. Robert was a 32nd degree Mason and was the Ohio State Commander of American Ex-Prisoners of War. He helped many people receive their full military benefits and directly impacted the founding of the WWII Memorial in Washington, D.C. Robert will also be remembered for his love of the land and trees and his time spent "walking the farm". Left to mourn Robert's passing are his children, Beatrice (Lynn) Jones, Robert (Debra) Fink Jr., Aprile (Mark) Hoffman and Larry (Kathy) Fink; 11 grandchildren, Wendy, Amanda, Robert, Shaina, Jennifer, Lauren, Kyle, Ryan, Clayton, Jonathan and Jacob; and 8 great-grandchildren. Robert is preceded in death by his loving wife of 62 years, Lois Joan (Cox) Fink; parents, Laurn and Pearl; great-granddaughter, Emily Smith; brother, Glenden Fink; and sister, Josephine Davis. A private service will take place with interment to follow at Green Haven Memorial Gardens. Memorial contributions may be made in Robert's memory to Hospice of the Valley, 5190 Market Street, Youngstown, Ohio 44512.
