Salem Services celebrating the life of Robert Leroy Thomas will be held at 11 am Wednesday at the Lane Family Funeral Home Canfield Chapel. Robert died Friday afternoon at Blossom Nursing Home. He was born September 5, 1919 in Canton the son of William L and Ethel P. (Lightfritz) Thomas. Robert worked at KayTee Crafts repairing boat motors. He was a member of Berlin Center United Methodist Church where he sang in the choir. He also sang with the Salem Jubilee Chorus and was one of the Quaker City Four. He proudly served his country in the Navy during WWII, serving in the Asian Pacific. He was very proud of having 66 continuous years in the AA program where he was fortunate to meet both of the co-founders. Robert will be sadly missed by his children; Danny (Lindsay) Thomas of Washingtonville, Eileen (Jay) Lafferre of Salem and Kathy Jo (Ronald) Cadle of North Jackson. He also leaves his grandchildren; Will (Mickey), Donna (Bob), Rhonda (Scott), Chris (Nikki), Shannon (Joe), Alex, great grandchildren; Eric, Robert, Chris Jr, Taylor, Jamie, Alexis, McCartney, Ryan and great great granddaughter Charlie. Robert was preceded in death by his wife of almost 60 years Theresa (Hilles) Thomas whom he married September 12, 1945 and who died August 25, 2005 and brother Harry F. Thomas. Family and friends may call from 5-8pm Tuesday and from 10-11 am Wednesday prior to services.
