Robert M. Fergus

Services will be held at 11:30 a.m. Thursday, August 16th at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Canfield for Robert Fergus age 65, of 413 S. Briarcliff Dr. in Canfield who passed away Sunday evening at his home. Mr. Fergus was born July 13, 1936 in Youngstown, Ohio. The Son of John and Julia (Burich) Fergus. Mr Fergus was a meat merchandiser at the Tamarkin Company from 1966-1980 and then for Giant Eagle from 1980-1989. He then purchased and operated the South Ave. Valu King until 1997. A member of the St. Michael’s Catholic Church, Mr Fergus was also a charter member of the Canfield Lion’s Club and an Army veteran receiving both the good conduct and marksmanship medals. Besides his wife, Joan (Kerpsack) Fergus whom he married Sept. 20, 1958 he leaves two sons; Robert John Fergus of Canfield, and Martin Fergus of Mantua as well as a daughter Laurie Hyden of Kings Mills, Ohio. He also leaves five sisters; Marlene Petro and Delores Jane Schiffer of Poland, Elizabeth Fabrizio of Boardman, Virginia Gembar of Ravenna, and Susan Sakara of Weirton, WV. Mr Fergus also leaves 5 grandchildren. His daughter Julia Kraus of West Palm Beach Florida passed away on June 26, 2001 he was also predeceased by a son, Robert M. Fergus Jr. Also deceased are 3 sisters; Cecelia Kaminsky, Ruth Hanni, Rita Cerney, and three brothers; Martin, John Jr., and Joseph Fergus. Friends may call from 10:30-11:30 AM, one-hour prior to the services at the church. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial contributions be sent to the St. Michael’s Church Piano Fund at 281 Glenview Rd., Canfield, OH 44406.
