Mr. Roberto "Cano" Serra Sr., 80, of Youngstown, died late Friday afternoon, May 10th, at St. Elizabeth Health Center in Youngstown.
He was born May 10, 1944 in Corozal, Puerto Rico, a son of Roberto and Andrea (Diaz) Serra.
Roberto worked as a mechanic for the city of Youngstown for 30 years, retiring in 2011.
He married the former Ruth Church on December 30, 2000. They shared 23 years of marriage and many happy memories together. She survives him.
Roberto came to the United States in 1973. He loved God and his church family and was an active member of the Bethel Assembly of God Church in Youngstown. He was also a former member of LAMA, the Latin American Motorcycle Association, and he enjoyed fishing and working on and rebuilding old cars. Most of all he loved helping people in any way he could. Roberto was a kind and generous man who loved his family and friends and he will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Besides his wife, Roberto is survived by his six children; Myrna (Ben) Molina, Luis Serra, Roberto (JoAnne) Serra, Jr., Leiza (Andy) Roman, Carmen "Alery" Serra, and Carlos (Priscilla) Serra; and a step-son, Neal Church. He also leaves behind a brother, Angel (Elba) Serra; three sisters; Maria Serra, Blanca (Migual) Serra, and Irma (Eddie) Serra; and numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a son, Jose Serra, and a brother, Rafael Serra.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM Wednesday, May 15th at the Lane Funeral Home Austintown Chapel, 5797 Mahoning Ave., Austintown, with Pastor Joel Theis officiating.
Friends may call 5:00-7:00 PM Tuesday, May 14th and for one hour prior to services on Wednesday at the funeral home.
He will be laid to rest in the Ellsworth Cemetery, Ellsworth, OH.
Roberto's family would like to thank the Briarfield Manor Nursing Center for all of the kind and compassionate care he received for the last six years.
