Roland N. Kurtzman

August 3, 1957 — July 10, 2024

Mecca

Mecca – Roland N. Kurtzman, 66, passed away Wednesday July 10, 2024 at Fort Sanders Regional Medical Center in Knoxville, TN.

Roland was born on August 3, 1957 in Warren, OH, a son of the late Howard and Nellie Kurtzman.

He was a graduate of Lakeview High School and was an over-the-road truck driver for 42 years spending the last 24 years as an owner-operator at Kuhnle Brothers Trucking until he retired in 2020. Over those 42 years he covered millions of miles, passed through dozens of states and earned 24 consecutive years of safety awards. It was during his time hauling, that he earned the CB handle “Crazy” which became the name all his friends called him.

He will be remembered for his devotion to family and friends. He started by marrying the love of his life, Debbie on October 24, 1975 and they quickly began their family together. Roland worked long, hard hours to take care of his family and still found time to be at football games, band shows, and baton twirling competitions to support his kids. Everything changed for Roland in 2009 when he became “Poppie.” Five grandkids later, nothing made him happier than having them around the house, playing in the swimming pool, and vacationing with them. Weekends, he was frequently chauffeuring Debbie to various baseball and soccer games and dance recitals to cheer for the kids.

When Roland wasn’t with his grandkids, he could be found in a comfy chair watching NASCAR with one of his dogs at his feet, bussing friends to Cleveland Browns games, or around the campfire at Camp Chalker.

Roland will be missed by his loving wife, Debbie; children, David (Melissa) Kurtzman, Michael (Michele) Kurtzman, and Tabatha (Robben) Cooper; grandchildren, Natalie, Timothy, Preston, Riley, and Danielle; step-grandchildren, Sebastian (Christina), Chelsea (Niko), and Hunter; step-great grandchildren, Ariana, Joselynn, Gia, Melina, and Kaine; sister, Marilyn (Alan) and brother Dennis; and brothers-in-law, Philip and Robert.

Besides his parents he was preceded in death by his in-laws, Hubert and Norma; sister-in-law, Cindy; sister, Carolyn; and brother, Milton.
