Ronald A. Thomas

Ronald A. Thomas, age 70, of Cortland, Ohio, died on Wednesday, March 26, 2008. Ron passed away peacefully with his family by his side after a short battle with cancer. He was born on November 21, 1937 in Curtisville, PA., the son of the late James C. Thomas and the late Mary A. (Sample) Thomas. Mr. Thomas was a veteran of the United States Navy and retired from Packard Electric in 1998 after 39 years of service. Ron enjoyed spending time with his family, particularly his fourteen grandchildren, Beth (Brad) Drennen, Amy McHenry-Fisher, Ryan (Stacy) Fisher, Vanessa Houk, Art Fisher Jr., Jess, John, and Vince Netto, Heidi (Chris) Frankowski, Jeff & Abey Francisco, Mark Seger, David and Natalie Thomas as well as his eight great grandchildren, Thomas, Joe & Ally McHenry, Mandy Fisher, Haley, Riley & Emily Drennen and Raven Houk. He is survived by his wife, Rosann (Fillian) Thomas, whom he married on December 16, 1959; three daughters, Brenda (Dan) Houk of Girard, Ronda (John) Netto of Poland and Michele (Gene) Francisco of Cortland , and one son Bill (Angela) Thomas of Austinburg. Also surviving is one brother, Fredrick (Carolyn) Thomas of Cortland and two sisters, Arettia "Sis"(Ken) Boring of Mineral Ridge and Saundra Shafer of Cortland. Arrangements are being handled by Shafer-Winans Funeral Chapel in Cortland, where the family will receive friends from 6 PM - 8 PM on Friday, March 28, 2008 at the funeral home. A funeral service will be held at the Cortland Church of the Nazarene on Saturday, March 29, 2008 at 11 AM. Interment will be at Kerr Cemetery in Mineral Ridge, Ohio. In lieu of flowers, the family request that donations be made to the Cortland Church of the Nazarene, 293 East Main St., Cortland, OH 44410 or to St. Jude Childrens Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN. 38105.
