Ronald R. "Rip" Repaskey, age 69, of Austintown, passed away at his home on Sunday, July 9, 2017 following a three year battle with ALS. Born August 10, 1947 in Struthers; he was the son of Frank R. and Mary L. (Smrecansky) Repaskey. Ron graduated in 1965 from Poland High School; received a Bachelor of Science in Education from YSU; earned a Masters Degree in Education in 1972 from YSU. He taught Mathematics for Youngstown City Schools for 35 years; the first 10 years at Hillman Jr. High, and then 25 years at The Rayen School. He retired in 2004 and subbed for 10 more years at both The Rayen School as well as East High School. Ron was an avid golfer and bowler for 40 years. He especially enjoyed playing cards, and was a member of several card clubs including the Men's club and the "Zoo Crew". He was also a member of Couple's 500 Bid club, and enjoyed playing Texas Hold-'em with many different friends and couples. Ron coached numerous softball and baseball teams in summer leagues with his children. He was the head softball coach for 15 years at The Rayen School. He later went on to umpire for 7 years in high school softball. He enjoyed taking cruises and junkets with his wife and friends. He was an avid Cleveland Cav's, Browns, and Indian's fan. He was a member of St Joseph Church in Austintown since 1972. Survivors include his wife Joann whom he married on July 26, 1969; children: Richard (Eva), Jennifer (Stuart) Repaskey-McMullan, and Laura (Brian) Repaskey-Kirby; grandchildren: Jeremy, Jared, Casimir, Aristeo, Corisande, Desmond, and Miles; a sister, Denise Repaskey; sisters-in-law: Mariann Del Signore, Louann Lauer, and Suzann Lauer, as well as two brothers-in-law: Robert Lauer and Michael Del Signore; and numerous other relatives. He enjoyed his special "furry four-legged friends", Cinnamon and Nutmeg. He was preceded in death by his parents as well as his in laws, Theodore and Emma Lauer. Friends will be received at the Lane Funeral Home, Austintown Chapel on Thursday from 4-7PM; Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Friday, July 14, 2017 at 10:00AM at St Joseph Church, 4545 New Rd., Austintown, Ohio 44515. To help others even in death, Ron made anatomical donations to help with research for ALS. The family would like to extend a special thanks to Hospice of the Valley for their compassionate care.
