Rosemary Keaveny

Rosemary D. Keaveny, 97, passed away at St. Elizabeth Boardman Hospital on June 17, 2018. Rosemary was born at home in Masury on August 17, 1920 to Ceril & Josephine Rose (Starr) DeMay. After graduating from Brookfield High School 1937 she attended the Peterson Comptometer School. Rosemary went to work as a timekeeper in the accounting office at Westinghouse. It was here that she met Austin P. Keaveny, who she was united in marriage with on September 2, 1946; he preceded her in death on July 2, 1999. Rosemary was a woman of great faith and a naturally talented musician. She served St. Bernadette Catholic Church for many years as their organist and choir director. She also assisted with clerical duties managing the alter servers and was a Sacristan. She was awarded the Pope Pius X Award for service to the church and received her Diocesan Master Certificate. When St. Bernadette's merged with St. Vincent DePaul Catholic Church to become St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church, she was honored for her extended service to the church in 2009. She was also part of the Sharon Music Club and performed with them and helped raise money for their Music Scholarship Program. She participated in a variety in the Shenango Valley Concert Series. She enjoyed playing cards with her ZZQ friends; a group that started in high school and continued throughout their married lives. Together, Rosemary and Austin attended YSU Senior Education Classes. They were both lifelong learners. She enjoyed traveling to the Atlantic and Pacific by car and by train and many Sunday trips to the beaches of Lake Erie. However, must importantly, Rosemary was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt and friend. Visitation for Rosemary will be held on Friday June 22, 2018 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Lane Funeral Homes, Madasz Chapel, Brookfield. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday June 23, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church: 4453 Warren-Sharon Road, Vienna. Rosemary is survived by her children Maureen (William) Kandray of Youngstown, OH and Thomas (Marianne) Keaveny of Auburn, CA; her grandchildren Jessica (Francis) Lann, William (Faith) Kandray, Nathan & Talia Keaveny and her great-grandchildren: Jackson, Philip & Henry. She is also survived by her sisters-in-law Delores De May and Margaret Rimko who reside in the area and her California sisters-in-law Kathleen, Monica, Mary, Eileen and Joann and numerous nieces and nephews. Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; brothers: Joseph, Raymond, Leo "Mike" and James DeMay and her sisters: Doris Cimperman and Evelyn Beyer and their spouses.
