Memorial services celebrating the life of Ruth E. Broad will be held at 11:00 am on Friday, October 19, 2018 at the Canfield United Methodist Church. Ruth was born March 1, 1921 in Hubbard, the daughter of Russell and Minnie Madge (Shook) Bailey, and passed away on Monday, October 15, 2018 at Shepherd of the Valley in Poland. Ruth moved to Canfield in 1956 and lived there most of her life. She graduated from Hubbard High School and attended Youngstown College. She had been a teller at Farmers National Bank in Canfield for over 20 years before her retirement. Ruth was a very active member of Canfield United Methodist Church, where she was the oldest living member. She had served on many of the church boards and was a member of the Republican Womans Club. She was very active in her community her entire life, her greatest joy was her family, grandchildren and new great grand daughter Ansley. Ruth will be missed by her son Fred (Anne) Broad of Pittsburgh, grandchildren; Kelly (James) Affinito, Jeff (Christine) Broad and great granddaughter Ansley Affinito. She will also be missed by her sister Jean Simpson, best friend of 26 years Bill Buckley who was considered family and several nieces and nephews. Ruth was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years Russell D. Broad whom she married in 1939 and who died in 1989, sisters Virginia Williams and Maxine Price. Family and friends may call from 10:00 am until 11:00 am Friday, October 19, 2018 at the church prior to services. The Broad family would like to thank the staff of Shepherd of the Valley for the special and loving care they provided for Ruth. The family requests that in lieu of flowers donations be made to the Canfield United Methodist Church in Ruths memory.
