Services celebrating the life of Ruth Gatrell will be held at 11am Tuesday at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Salem. Ruth died Tuesday evening in Salem Regional Hospital. She was born May 11, 1930 in Youngstown the daughter of Harold and Frances (Hawkins) Wilson and had formerly lived in Berlin Center before moving to Salem. Ruth is a member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church and had formerly been a member of Mt. Moriah Lutheran Church in Berlin Center where she taught Bible School and helped with the food give away for 10 years. She graduated from Berlin Center High School and had been Alumni President for 10 years, president of the Goshen Harmony Club for 12 years, member of the American Legion Post 737 Ladies Axillary, Kindergarten helper Lake Milton School, bowled in the Mt. Moriah Bowling league for 5 years, member of the card club and was an avid Bingo player. Ruth always had her bags packed and ready to travel whenever anyone asked. She had formerly worked for JCPenney and Sears as a sales Lady. Ruth will be sadly missed by her children; Raymond (Terry) Gatrell, Debra (Bill) Kale and Dennis Gatrell all of Salem. Her 5 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren, 1step granddaughter, 1 step great grandaughter and sister Lucille Boston of Salem. She was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years Raymond Gatrell whom she married June 18, 1949 and who died August 25, 2000, brother Harold Wilson and parents. Family and friends may call from 5-8 pm Monday at the Lane Funeral Home Austintown Chapel and one hour prior to services Tuesday at the church.
