A Memorial Mass will be held at St. Michael’s Church in Canfield at 10am on Wednesday, October 30th to celebrate the life of Sheila A. Dunn who passed away peacefully Sunday evening at the age of 86.
Sheila was born and raised in Cleveland to the late Matthew & Gertrude Parks. Sheila graduated from Beaumont High School in 1956, where she was an active member of the Civics Club. This involvement marked the beginning of her lifelong journey as a dedicated Good Samaritan, as she consistently sought to uplift and support the communities she called home. After her time at Beaumont, Sheila began working at the Cleveland Clinic. It was at this time that she had met the love of her life, Terry Dunn, whom she married on June 10th, 1962.
Shortly after their marriage, Sheila and Terry settled their family in the Youngstown area, where Sheila devoted herself to raising their five wonderful children in their Canfield home. She was an active member of the St. Michael’s Church community, contributing her time and passion to both the Altar Guild and the Garden Club. In addition to her family and community involvement, Sheila was also a dedicated member of the Canfield Junior Women's League and worked part-time at It's My Bag and Sears.
Sheila cherished nothing more than being able to spend time with her husband, children, and grandchildren. Her hobbies included bowling and golfing, where she often enjoyed friendly competition with family and friends. Sheila also loved playing cards, especially bridge. One of Sheila’s favorite traditions was hosting Christmas Eve in her home for her family, friends and neighbors. Everyone always looked forward to this annual night together to celebrate. In her later years, Sheila acted as a second mother to all of her grandchildren, each of whom hold great memories of their time they spent together.
Sheila was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, her parents, her daughter Julie Sittig, her son Michael Dunn, in-laws Robert and Irene Dunn and her son-in-law Scott Sittig.
Sheila will be missed dearly by her three surviving daughters, Karen (Tom) Donadee, Suzy (Nick) Manos and Katie (Bill) Haas. Sheila also leaves behind two brothers, Sterling (Lois) and Jimmy (Lorry) Parks, as well as a brother-in-law, Tim (Eileen) Dunn. Sheila took great pride in her grandchildren and will be missed by Nick (fiance Katie Ellinger) and Alex Manos, Scott Sittig, Sarah (Alec) Studer, Tommy and Jake Donadee and Ashleigh and Jessica Haas.
Friends may call from 5pm until 7pm on Tuesday, October 29th at the Lane Funeral Home Canfield Chapel. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Buckeye Hospice in Sheila’s name.
The family would like to extend their utmost appreciation to Buckeye Hospice and Briarfield Manor, as they are all forever grateful for how the nurses cared for Sheila in her final days.
