Shirley M. Martin, 97, of Austintown, died early Saturday morning, March 2nd at the Humility House in Austintown.
She was born April 29, 1926 in Youngstown, the daughter of Robert M. and Ida (Harris) Evans.
Shirley was a 1944 graduate of Youngstown South High School. She worked for a brief time for the Strouss Hirshberg Department Store downtown, and spent most of her adult life as a homemaker, raising and caring for her family.
She married Harry A. Martin on June 27, 1948. They shared 67 years of marriage and many happy memories together, prior to his passing March 31, 2016.
Shirley enjoyed nature, feeding the birds, flowers and gardening, taking care of her home, and going out to restaurants for dinners with her family.
She is survived by her two sons; Leslie A. Martin and Harry R. Martin, both of Austintown. She also leaves behind four grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; and two great great grandchildren.
Besides her husband, Shirley was preceded in death by her parents, a son Jeffrey A. Martin, and a great granddaughter, Samantha.
In accordance with her wishes there will be no funeral services or calling hours.
Shirley's great great grandfather was Henry Brunstetter, who donated five acres of his family farm on Wilcox Rd. which is now Brunstetter Cemetery. She will be laid to rest there next to her beloved husband.
Arrangements for Mrs. Martin are being provided by the Lane Funeral Home Austintown Chapel, 5797 Mahoning Ave., Austintown.
