Steven Alan O'Meara

Steven Alan "Smiley" O'Meara, age 54, of Brookfield, died Sunday, January 31, 2010, at his home. He was born October 25, 1955 in West Branch, Michigan the son of the late Robert O'Meara and Martha (Chrivia) Hendrickson. He has lived in the Brookfield area since 1997 coming from Virginia. Smiley retired from the U.S. Navy as Petty Officer 1st Class in August 1996, after serving over 21 years. He has also worked in Mason, Tenn. and Youngstown for Corrections Corp. of America for several years, most recently as a captain and shift supervisor. He enjoyed hunting and fishing and loved his animals. Smiley is survived by his wife, Peggy Joan (Sebald) O'Meara, whom he married August 29, 1981; one daughter, Erin K.R. (Joseph) Burns of Masury; one son, Ryan Patrick O'Meara of Brookfield; one sister, Patricia R. (Robert) Prieur of Hale, Mich.; two brothers, Robert L. (Nadine) O'Meara of East Tawas, Mich. and Rick Hendrickson of Dension, Texas and his mother-in-law, Joan Sebald of Hale, Michigan. He was preceded in death by his parents; his stepfather, Robert Hendrickson and his stepmother, Winnie O'Meara. Arrangements are being handled by Lane Funeral Homes Madasz Chapel in Brookfield, where the family will receive friends from 1 to 3 pm Friday, February 5, 2010, followed by a memorial service at 3 pm at the funeral home. Pastor Bill Johnson will be officiating. Cremation was held.
