Thelois "Nudi" Brooks

Canfield: Private services were held at Lane Funeral Home Canfield Chapel for Thelois A. "Nudi" Brooks, 89, of Canfield who died Thursday morning at Briarfield Manor Nursing Home. She was born September 26, 1918 in Templeton, Pa., the daughter of Loran L. and Florence (Schall) Stanford. Her husband, Alfred L. Brooks, whom she married on December 3, 1937, died September 13, 1995. She was a 1936 graduate of Canfield High School. She and her husband were the office manger and agent for the Ashland Oil Company Bulk Plant in Salem, Ohio. They retired in 1987. She was a member of the Canfield Presbyterian Church where she had been a Sunday School teacher. She was a member and past-president of the Canfield American Legion Auxiliary unit 177. She had also served as the past-president of the Mahoning County Council American Legion Auxiliary. She was the chapeau of the Mahoning County American Legion Salon 336 - 8 and 40. She provided leadership for the annual veterans poppy sales in Canfield. For many years she organized groups to honor and visit disabled veterans in veteran hospitals in the Northeast Ohio region. She was a tour guide for the Canfield War Veterans Museum. She especially enjoyed reading, genealogy research, gardening and golf. She and her husband had been active members of the Sebring Country Club. She is survived by a daughter, Nancy Brown, and a son, Loran W. (Joyce) Brooks. She also leaves 6 grandchildren: Todd (Kay) Brown; Dan (Tracey) Brown; Chad Brown; Loran D. (Margaret) Brooks; Cheryl (Al) Montag; Cindy (Jim) Corll; 11 great grandchildren: Andrew and Nicholas Brown; Aaron, Ethan and Madelyn Brooks; Matthew and Nicholas Montag; Joe, Zachary, Jacob and Katelynn Corll; and a step great grandson, Jared (Erin) Clark. Besides her husband and her parents she was preceded in death by brothers, Charles and Willard Stanford; sisters, Jane Haney, Dorothy Swogger and infant twin sisters, Louise and Louella Stanford; and son-in-law, Dayne Brown. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in her name to the Canfield War Veterans Museum, 23 E. Main Street, Canfield, Ohio 44406.
