YOUNGSTOWN-Thomas J. Burnett, 89, passed away at Crandall Medical Center in Sebring on Nov. 13, 2018. He was born on Oct. 12, 1929 in Youngstown, the son of William and Dorothy E. Compton Burnett. Tom attended Youngstown City Schools and was president of South High School Class of 1948. While in high school, he lettered in football, basketball, tennis and track. He also sang in the Acappella Choir. He played tennis until he was 75 years old. Tom was a U.S. Army veteran. He was a member of the Western Reserve United Methodist Church, where he taught the Christian Fellowship Class one Sunday a month for over 50 years. He was a born salesman spending most of his career selling heavy farm equipment and later tags and labels. He and Norma enjoyed remodeling every one of their homes. He was a loyal, loving husband and a wonderful father and grandfather. He leaves to cherish his memory, his beloved wife of over 68 years, Norma J. Irwin Burnett, whom he married March 4, 1950; his sister, Dorothy J. MacNaughton of Youngstown; his daughters, Marsha R. Hamilton of Leetonia and Holly Burnett (Mark) Hanley of Youngstown; his son James T. (Rebecca) Burnett of Salem and his son-in-law, Kurt Kridler of Leetonia. He also leaves 8 grandchildren, 9 gr. grandchildren and several cousins, nieces and nephews. Tom was preceded in death by his parents, his in-laws, Robert and Mabel Jenkins Irwin, his brother, William G. Burnett and his daughter, Connie L. Kridler, who passed away Aug. 11, 2018. Family and friends may call from 4-6 p.m. Sunday at Lane Family Funeral Homes-Austintown Chapel and 10-11 a.m. Monday at Western Reserve United Methodist Church, prior to the Service at 11 a.m. Toms family would like to thank the staff of Crandall Medical Center for their excellent care.
