Velma Mae Vaughn, age 77, of Salem, passed away at her home on Friday, November 2, 2018. Born August 20, 1941 in New Kensington, PA; she was the daughter of Norman and Velma (Nygard) Perry. Velma was a 1959 graduate of Lordstown High School; she was a homemaker and attended Redeemer Lutheran Church. She enjoyed decorating cakes for all occasions, especially wedding cakes, for her family and friends; she enjoyed making crafts, attending craft shows, reading, and crossword puzzles. Velma, called "Poochie" since she was young, was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, who was never happier than when all the members of her family were together celebrating special times in her home. Her focus in life was her caring for her husband and family. She had been successful in creating closeness in her family; her family has many wonderful and loving memories of her. She had spirited vocal thoughts to defend her family, keep loved ones on the right path, celebrate life with you, and feel life with you; she also had a wonderful sense of humor. Survivors include her husband of 58 years, William; children: Barbara (James) Armstead, William (Angela) Vaughn, Jr., Gerald (Sharon) Vaughn, and Robert (Mary) Vaughn; 12 grandchildren: Elizabeth Kerner, Jennifer McWilliams, Jason Armstead, Kate, Charles, Bobby, and Chase Vaughn, EmmaRae and EllaGrace Foy, EvaLine Vaughn, Lee Withrow, and Jonathan Gbur; 12 great-grandchildren; brothers and sisters: Hannah Evans, Norma Johnson, Norman Perry, Lois Sferra, Richard Perry, and Debbie Cook. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her siblings: Veatrice Gardner, Ellen Robinson, Esther Elizabeth Perry, Henry Perry, and Elmer Perry, and a great granddaughter Serenity Armstead. Friends will be received at the Lane Funeral Home, Austintown Chapel on Wednesday from 4-7PM; where services will take place on Thursday at 10:30AM. The family would like to extend their appreciation to Southern Care Hospice, especially nurse Rachel for the wonderful care provided to Velma. Memorials may be made to St. Judes Childrens Hospital.
