There will be Services at 1 p.m. Thursday at Lane Family Funeral Homes-Canfield Chapel for Virginia Lee Knauf, 76, who passed away Sunday afternoon after a courageous battle with various illnesses at Courtyard of Lexington in Salem. She was born April 13, 1942 in Youngstown, a daughter of Harry and Betty Hoskins Barker. Virginia was a 1960 graduate of Canfield High School and received her Bachelors Degree in Education from Youngstown University and began her teaching career by starting the kindergarten program at Ellsworth Elementary School and later was a substitute teacher for many Mahoning County Schools and Youngstown City Schools. Her longtime involvement with 4-H began when she met her husband-to-be. She served on many committees in various capacities. She was a member of the Home Economics committee, a county Cloverbud judge and a 4-H advisor. She loved attending the Canfield Fair and she and her family were the Canfield Fair family in 2000. During the fair she enjoyed being a hostess at the Arts and Crafts building. Virginia loved traveling throughout the country with her husband, Leland and spending time with her family, especially with her grandchildren, while watching them swim in the pool. She was a member of Canfield Christian Church. Virginia is survived by her husband of 55 years, Leland W. Knauf, whom she married September 8, 1962; her sons, Rodney (Lorene) Knauf of Gilbert, AZ and Kent Knauf of Canfield; her daughter, Wendy (Dan) Lough of Canfield; her sister, Jane Ann Barker of Dover, NH; her grandchildren, Courtney (Bryan) Colcord, Steven, Justine, Lindsey and Ethan Knauf and Dani and Griffin Lough and her gr. grandchildren, Eva, Levi, Amos and Maisy. Besides her parents, Virginia was preceded in death by her brother, Jack Swift. Friends may call from 12-1 p.m., prior to the Service on Thursday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be given to the 4-H Endowment, 490 South Broad St., Canfield, OH 44406.
