W. James "Jim" Pew, 88, of Youngstown, passed away on December 26, 2017 at Omni Manor Health Care Center. Jim was born in Berlin Center on December 19th, 1930, a son of the late Ralph and Irene (Teeters) Pew. He resided in North Jackson until he married in 1954. Jim was employed thru Hynes Industries of Youngstown, Ohio for thirty-eight years. Whereupon earning his GED and completing the mandatory requirements; he was promoted into their Maintenance Department, before retiring in 1992. He was an honorary member of the United Steelworkers of America thru Local 2377. After retiring, he provided seven years of service as a Hunting and Fishing License agent for the Ohio Department of Natural Resources. Jim was a proud veteran, serving two tours of duty in the Korean War as a Paratrooper with the 187th Airborne Regimental Combat Team. He was also proud of his donating over one hundred gallons of blood to the American Red Cross. Jim was an avid hunter, fisherman and outdoorsman since early childhood. He was a member of the Lowellville Rod and Gun Club, National Rifle Association, previous member of the National Black Powder Rifle Association, and the North American Hunt Club. Jim loved to travel and took his family on some memorable vacations such as Florida, Canada, and the Smokey Mountains. He enjoyed camping, photography, maintaining his home and manicuring his lawn. Jim is a member of Heritage Presbyterian Church in Poland, Ohio. Jim forever touched the lives of his two daughters, Cheryl A. Clowser of Boardman and Dianne L. (John) Sanders of Poland. Cherishing his memories are his grandchildren: James A. Pew, Jennifer M. Razo, Burton D. Clowser, Traci L. (Mark) Moody, and Leesa M. (Frank) Webber. He will be sadly missed by his seven great grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild, along with a brother Ralph (Virginia) of Yuma, Arizona and several nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Colleen R., whom he married November 6, 1954. Three brothers, Edward, Robert, Ray, and a sister Carol Felger also preceded him in death. Friends will be received at the Lane Funeral Home, Austintown Chapel, on Tuesday, January 2, 2018 from 6-8PM and one hour prior to the services on Wednesday, January 3, 2018 at 11:00AM. Burial will take place at Green Haven Memorial Gardens in Canfield, Ohio. Jims family would like to thank Omni Manor for the special care provided to their loved one and are requesting in lieu of flowers that a memorial contribution be given to Grace Hospice, 7206 Market Street Youngstown, Ohio 44512.
