There will be a funeral service 8 PM Friday at the Lane Funeral Home Austintown Chapel for Walter Jay Hunston Sr., of Sebring, who passed away Friday evening at Crandall Medical Center. He was born August 31, 1919 in East Palestine, OH a son of the late Walter A. and Hazel (Burris) Hunston. He was a graduate of Baldwin Wallace College, attended Duke Law School, spent three years as a radar and fighter control officer on a destroyer in the US Navy during WWII, and graduated from Western Reserve Law School of Cleveland in 1947. An attorney in Salem for 40 years, he was active in Sing Out, and an active member of the First United Methodist Church of Salem. He and his wife were house parents in group child care facilities in Florida. They retired to Copeland Oaks in Sebring, OH. Walter is survived by his wife the former Maralyn Cannon, whom he married June 27, 1943; three children: Sandra (Paul William) Metts of Austintown, Walter J. (Jane) Hunston Jr. of Stuart, FL, and Debra (John Petrek) Hunston of Perrysburg; seven grandchildren Amanda (Al), Paul (Angie), Rebekah (Mike), Johanna (Rob), Jay III (Kelly), Dan, and Eric; and four great grandchildren: Joshua, Sophia, Madeline, and Jay IV. Besides his parents, Walter is preceded in death by two sisters: Mildred G. Ashbridge, and Virginia Gentile; and two brothers: Kenneth Hunston and Russell Burris Hunston. Contributions may be made to Copeland Oaks, 800 S. 15th St., Sebring, Ohio, 44672. Friends may call from 7 PM until 8 PM Friday at the funeral home. A reception will also be held in the Williamsburg Lounge at Copeland Oaks from 11 AM until 1 PM Saturday February 9, 2008. The family would like to thank Hospice of the Valley and Copeland Oaks for the care provided to the entire family.
