AUSTINTOWN-----Funeral services will be held 1:00 PM Thursday at the Lane Funeral Home, Austintown Chapel for Mr. William C. Slater, 70 of Austintown, who passed away Monday morning in St. Elizabeth Health Care Center. William was born November 5, 1931 in Youngstown. He was raised by his step-father, Frank Mazzie and mother,Wilma (Armstrong) Slater Mazzie and was a lifelong area resident. He had worked as a machine engineer for the Wean-United Co. 45 years retiring in 1993. He was an Army veteran stationed in Greenland during the Korean War. His wife, the former Lillian Louise Long, whom he married July 31, 1959, died June 4, 1980. He is survived by 5 daughters, Elaina Houston, Wendy Slater, Darlene Slater and Jacqueline Morton all of Austintown, Victoria Tatarka of Hermitage, PA and a step-daughter, Kathy Horvath of Reno, NV, one son, William F. Slater of Cincinnati and 2 step-sons, Richard Massie of Austintown and David Massie of Cincinnati. One sister, Shirley Edwards of Wilson N. Carolina and a brother Donald Slater of Boardman, 20 grandchildren 4 step-grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren He was preceded in death by his father, Charles L. Slater, mother and step-father. Friends may call from 4-7 PM Wednesday and one hour before services Thursday at the funeral home.
