William Carleton Bigelow

YOUNGSTOWN-William Carleton Bigelow, 89, passed away Thursday, October 31, 2019 at Hospice House in Poland. Bill was born April 12, 1930 in Maumee, Ohio, a son of Charles C. and Ildah Brinsmaid Bigelow. Bill was a self-employed consultant. He was a graduate of Maumee High School and received his Bachelor’s degree from William and Mary College and later earned his MBA. Bill served his country as a member of the U.S. Marine Corp. during the Korean War from 1952-1954. Bill was a member of First Covenant Church, where he served on several boards. He also served on the boards of the YMCA, Austintown Schools PTA, the Youngstown Optimist, Camp Mission Meadows in Dewittville, NY and was past president of Hands on Volunteer. Bill loved gardening. He enjoyed having parties and entertaining family and friends and especially enjoyed traveling to Barbados with his family. Bill is survived by his wife of 58 years, the former Carol Swisher, whom he married October 28, 1961; his daughters, Pamela Bigelow of Santa Barbara, CA and Penny (Steven) Bigelow Golden of Chicago, Ill and his grandchildren, Connor, Reilly, Callie and Flannery Golden. Besides his parents, Bill was preceded in death by his brothers, Richard and Robert Bigelow. There will be a Celebration of Life Saturday, November 30 at 11:30 a.m. at Davidson’s Restaurant in Cornersburg. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Bill’s name, may be given to Camp Mission Meadows, 5201 East Lake Rd. Dewittville, NY 14728; to Covenant Harbor Bible Camp, 1724 W. Main Street, Lake Geneva, WI 53147 or to the Salvation Army, 1501 Glenwood Ave., Yo., OH 44511. Arrangements are by the Lane Family Funeral Homes-Anstrom Chapel.
