William Carlyle Lane, Jr.

William C. Lane, Jr., 91 of Bazetta Township, died Wednesday afternoon, March 27, 2019, at St. Joseph Warren Hospital. He was born June 20, 1927 in Warren, the son of the late William Carlyle and Margaret Kupson Lane Sr. Bill was a 1945 graduate of Cortland High School. He then enlisted in the U.S. Navy serving as a Seaman first class on the USS Barataria during the final year of World War II. Bill then attended Youngstown College and received his bachelors degree in industrial engineering. He worked for over 30 years as an industrial engineer at Republic Steel / LTV Steel /WCI and retired in 1992. Bill was the Mr. Fixit in the family. He had a profound love of automobiles. He enjoyed fishing and was an avid sports fan, especially of the Pittsburgh Pirates and Steelers, the Cleveland Indians (who trumped the Pirates in his book) and the Duke basketball team. Bill is survived by his wife of nearly 43 years, Beverly J. Dunkerton Lane, whom he married June 4, 1976; four children, Darryl B. Lane of Warren, Kevin R. Lane of Staten Island, Kerrie L. (Bryan) Bartzi of Howland and Jon Scott (Holly) Lane of Cortland; four stepchildren, Patricia (John) Daugherty of Massillon, Norma (Mick) Wycoff of Howland, Stephen Korodi Jr. of Warren and David (Stevi) Dignal of Indiana; one brother, Ralph D. (Sally) Lane of Cortland and is blessed with numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren. One brother, Robert John Lane preceded him in death in 1953. Per Bill's wishes there will be no calling hours or services and cremation was held. There will be a private graveside service at a later date, when military honors will be accorded. Burial will be at Hillside Cemetery in Bazetta. Arrangements were entrusted to Lane Family Funeral Homes, Shafer-Winans Chapel in Cortland.
