Mr. William E. Davis, Jr., 88, of Austintown, passed away peacefully Tuesday afternoon, February 20th, at the Austinwoods Nursing Center in Austintown.
He was born April 25, 1935 in Youngstown, the son of William E. and Edna Belle (Pearce) Davis, Sr.
Bill was a 1953 graduate of Mineral Ridge High School and worked as an engineer and project manager for Panelmatic for 30 years, retiring in 1997. He also served his country in the U.S. Navy for 8 years and was honorably discharged in 1961.
He married the former Patricia L. Schmidt on February 23, 1957. They shared 58 years of marriage and many happy memories together until her passing December 27, 2015.
Bill was an active member of the Grace Lutheran Church in Austintown; the Optimist Club of Austintown, where he served as past President and Lt. Governor; the Mahoning County Old Car Club; and Austintown VFW Post #301. He had also been active with the Boy Scouts, where he was instrumental in founding Troop #29, and served as Scout Master for seventeen years and was receipient of the Lamb Award; the Lutheran Brotherhood; the Austintown Historical Society; he was a part of the group who founded Men In Mission Of the Church; ; and he volunteered his time with Habitat For Humanity. Bill was also an avid NASCAR fan, he enjoyed camping and woodworking, and his greatest joy was spending time with his beloved family.
He is survived by his two sons, William P. (Rebecca) Davis, of Austintown and David E. (Pamela) Davis, of Canfield. He also leaves behind two grandsons, Justin Davis and Kristopher (Alisyn) Davis; four great grandchildren; Sadie, Lincoln, Liam, and Brendan; and a very dear friend, Paul Scott.
Besides his wife, Bill was preceded in death by his parents and a great granddaughter, Kendyl.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM Tuesday, Feb. 27th at the Grace Lutheran Church, 162 S Raccoon Rd, Austintown with Pastor Larry Klinker officiating.
Friends mat call 5 - 7 PM Monday, Feb. 26th at the Lane Funeral Home Austintown Chapel and one hour prior to services from 10 - 11 AM Tuesday at the church.
He will be laid to rest next to his beloved wife in the Green Haven Cemetery, Canfield.
In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to Southerncare Hospice of Youngstown, in Bill's memory.
