Funeral services will be held at 11 AM Monday, January 7, 2019 at the Lane Funeral Home, Austintown Chapel for William Edward Carter Jr., 71 of Mansfield, formerly of the Youngstown area, who passed away Monday, December 31, 2018 at his home with his loved ones by his side. William was born June 3, 1947 in Norfolk, VA, the son of William E. Sr. and Irma K. (Hatfield) Carter. He retired from General Motors. William was an Army Veteran serving in Germany from 1966 to 1969. He was an avid golfer and loved playing on line poker. William also loved to travel a lot with his wife and family and went on several cruises and visited several places. He met his wife, the former Holly Anne Smart while he was in the Army. They were pen pals during his services to our country and were married on June 24, 1969. He was a member of Grace Episcopal Church in Mansfield. William leaves his wife Holly, one son, William E III and his wife Terry, two grandchildren, Chase and Kayla, four brothers, James M. and his wife Diane, Curtis L. and his wife Bonnie, Alan R. and Lewis G. as well as two sisters, Shirley G. Groh and her husband Joe, and Diane L. Warren and her husband Bill, along with one sister in law, Janet Smart, and several nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, William was preceded in death by two sons, Timothy and Keith, two sisters, Rochelle Lane and Peggy Crissey, and one brother Larry Carter. Family and friends may call from 3 to 6 pm Sunday and again from 10 to 11 AM Monday at the Lane Funeral Home, Austintown Chapel where services will begin at 11 AM In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to a Hospice organization in the donors local area.
