William James Luth

William James Luth, 85 Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Monday at Lane Family Funeral Homes, Canfield Chapel for William James Luth, 85 of the Inn at Ironwood, Canfield who died peacefully Tuesday afternoon at his residence. William was born November 22, 1932 in Youngstown, a son of the late Eric and Elizabeth (Habeger) Luth and was a lifelong area resident. He graduated from Chaney High School and started an apprenticeship in the sheet metal trade where he worked for 41 years, retiring at age 61 from A.A. Samuels Sheet Metal Co. William served in the United States Navy Airman First Class during the Korean War with Squadron ATU600. In 1956 he married the love of his life, Carolyn Collins and had a great life together until her death, September 1, 2008. They had lived their entire lives on the west side of Youngstown until moving to Canfield in 2004. William leaves three children, a son, James (Lori) Luth; two daughters, Jeannie (William) Pasquale and Jill (Shawn) Scharf; six grandchildren, Christopher Luth, Patrick Luth, triplets Kevin, Michael and Eric Pasquale; granddaughter, Olivia Williamson and one sister, Elsie Luth. Besides his parents and his wife, William was preceded in death by two brothers, Robert and Edwin and a sister, Gladys Luth. He loved playing sports when he was young and watching his children and grandchildren compete in sporting events. He loved to go fishing with his friends in both summer and winter and had owned, trained and raced harness horses with his brother Robert for 30 years at the R & W Stables, racing at Ohio, Pennsylvania and Canadian tracks. William was a lifetime member of First Reformed Church, Pilgrim Collegiate Church and Faith Community Covenant Church where he had served as deacon, elder, vice president and usher for many years. Friends may call on Monday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home. The family would like to thank the Inn at Ironwood for the wonderful care given to William. The family requests material tributes take the form of contributions to Animal Charity, 4140 Market Street, Youngstown, OH 44512.
