Canfield- Funeral services will be held 11 AM Thursday at Canfield Presbyterian Church for William L. Bancroft age 86 of Canfield. who died late Saturday evening in Northside Hospital. Bill was born Dec. 8, 1918 in Canfield and was the son of the late William E. and Alta Mae (Norris) Bancroft. He retired from Burdett Oxygen in 1979 where he had been an operator. He had also owned his own truck and drove for Glenn Cartage Trucking and had also drove for Roadway Express. Bill was a member of the Canfield Presbyterian Church where he was a member for over 60 years, Argus Masonic Lodge in Canfield, Canfield Ruritan and enjoyed hunting and fishing. His wife, the former Ruby J. Richards, whom he married April 23, 1939 died Nov. 14, 2004. He is survived by five children, William N. (Sally) Bancroft of Hubbard, Thomas S. (Beverly) Bancroft of New Palestine, IN, Nancy Dunn, Martha J. (John) Dorrance and Dr. Margaret Bancroft all of Canfield. He also leaves a sister Shirley Wehr of Salem, 9 grandchildren; John Dunn, Ron Dunn, Nancy Kunkle, Carrie Correll, Jessica Bancroft, William Bancroft, Michelle Collins, Christopher Dorrance, Matthew Dorrance, 14 great grandchildren and 1 great great granddaughter. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife and three sisters, Virginia Corll, Marian Glenn, Alta Cummings and a brother Norman Bancroft. Friends and family may call at the Lane Funeral Home-Canfield Chapel from 6-8 PM Wed. The family requests that material contributions be made to American Heart Assoc. or the Abiding Memorial Fund of the church. The Argus Lodge will hold a service 8 PM Wed. evening at the funeral home.
