William P. Amendol

There will be a Mass of Christian Burial held on Monday at 10 a.m. at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, with the Father Edward Noga officiating, for Mr. William Amendol, age 91, who died December 31, 2017. William was born November 27, 1926 a son of the late Joseph and Sandy (Ross) Amendol. He was a graduate of Austintown Fitch School and is a W.W. ll Veteran that served in The Atlantic Theater of Operations. William was a member of Carpenters Local 171, and retired after 54 years. He was a charter member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Church and served on the parish council and was a member of the Mens Club and the Senior Citizens Club. He was a member of the Democratic County Central Committee and served as precinct committeeman. Bill was a highly active member of the American Legion throughout his life. He served as the Commander of American Legion Post 301 from, 1959-1962, 1981-1982 and 1998-1999. He was the Commander of the Mahoning County Council, Commander of The Dynamic Ninth District from 1988-1989, a member of the Forty & Eight Voiture 925, a member of the Catholic War Veterans Post 1292, and a member of the VFW Post 4237. He was an adviser for The Sons of the American Legion Squadron 301, and for the Ninth District. He also served as Chaplin of the American legion department of Ohio 2003- 2004. He was appointed by The American Legion National Commander as Vice Chairman of the Foreign Relations committee. He was asked to represent The Ninth District at the W.W. ll Memorial in Washington D.C. and he was a participant in the Honor Flight CAK. Bill enjoyed hunting, fishing and woodworking and spending time with his family and friends. The love of his life Bertha, whom he married October 28, 1950, passed away July 9, 2011. He will be sadly missed by his four children: William D. Amendol, Sr. of Austintown, Lawrence (Melody) Amendol of Austintown, Beverly (Stephen) Zentko of Poland, Lynne (Andrew) Sinchak of Austintown; one sister: Jean Sandora of Florida; five grandchildren: William D. (Amy) Amendol, Jr., Michelle (Anthony) Sebastiani, Stephanie (Steven) Rozman, April (Eric) Vrabenburg, Shawn (Jillian) Zentko; and seven great-grandchildren: Matthew, Giuliana, Mia, Chase, Cali Mae, Capri and Laci. Besides his parents, William was preceded in death by one brother: Arthur Amendol, and three sisters: Mary Pitzulo, Carmel Morabito and Helen Chuirazzi. Friends may call from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday at Lane Funeral Home Austintown Chapel. The American Legion Post 737 will conduct a memorial service Sunday at the funeral home. A mass will be held at Immaculate Heart of Mary at 10 a.m. Monday. Interment will follow at Resurrection Cemetery, where William will be laid to rest next to his wife. We would like to thank Hospice of the Valley and Shepherd of the Valley for all their love, care and support for Bill and his family during his final days.
